What are your most valuable skills?
There are many skills you can become very good at. When I was twenty, my best skill was being an expert downhill skier. Fun, but not very valuable as a career. Nonetheless, I always enjoyed the mountain lifestyle and I wanted our children to also enjoy it. Our son, who is especially adventurous, became a mountain rescue expert, after he was rescued himself.
On a Friday before Thanksgiving, I received a call from Emergency Services telling me that our son’s rescue beacon had been activated. The location was one where two friends had disappeared a year earlier. The mountains around Vancouver are very steep and can be quite dangerous. Our son had dislocated his shoulder. As it was already dark, he spent the night on a cliff helped by his best friend. In the morning, he was helicoptered out.
